Boko Haram: Nigerian Army Goes Religious In War Against Violent Extremism In Yobe
The Nigerian Army today held a religious enlightenment seminar with the aim of countering violence in Yobe State, the Northeast and Nigeria as a whole.
The theme of this meeting was slated 'Countering Insurgency and Violent Extremism in Nigeria Through Authentic Religious Enlightenment ", This meeting gathered together religious leaders, civil society managements, security agents among others from all around yobe state under one roof to present systematic and effective ways to counter insurgency.
Brigadier General Shehu Garba Mustapha who is the Director of Islamic affairs of the Nigerian army said that this religious seminar is aimed at producing appropriate narratives to defeat the wrong ideologies used by leaders of the Boko Haram and vocational insurgents groups to recruit and indoctrinate their follower from the society.
" It is also a fallout of the initial programme on counter-narrative last year which generate enthusiasm from the clerics and leaders of thought in Maiduguri. But due to the fact that the insurgency by Boko Haram is ideological in nature", Mustapha said in quote.
